Experimental investigation of single-bubble growth during the saturated pool boiling of water and self-rewetting aqueous n-butanol mixtures

Self-rewetting fluids are commonly used in heat pipes, but their performance is not well understood pool boiling. Here, we performed boiling of n-butanol-water mixtures on thin titanium foil and utilized synchronous high-speed IR video cameras to capture transient temperature fields bubble dynamics. At the onset nucleate boiling, self-rewetting offered higher nucleation site density smaller diameters compared water. However, with increasing flux, a significant depletion n-butanol was created vicinity sites, which caused periodic temporal fluctuations evaporation energy. Average surface departure diameter for even exceeded values pure This shows that Marangoni effects cannot overcome limited mass diffusion more volatile component towards sites flat horizontal heaters. Based our observations, use fluid will increase transfer coefficient when water, also known conventional negative temperature-dependent tension. Our experiments offer step better understanding complex possibility indirect evaluation concentration variations based thermography.
